There are two main reasons for which Jesus received and released God's power to His church, 1. Power to live like Christ, and 2. Power to evangelise like Christ Power to live like Christ and to evangelise are the backbone and foundations of Power Evangelism. Power Evangelism is the art of effective and fruitful soul winning. Through Power Evangelism more souls are harvested into God's kingdom. The power of the Holy Spirit which came on the 120 disciples on the day of Pentecost led to the conversion of 3000 souls at once (Acts 2:41). The reason for Power Evangelism is because God has great compassion and burning desire for souls that are perishing (Mt 9:36). Soul winning is the heart beat of God and the major cause of joy and celebration in heaven among the angels (Lk 15:7). Power to Live like Christ Mt 11:28-30 One of the reasons Jesus received power from God is to enable believers live like Him. There is need to study and understand the way Jesus lived to be able to live like Him. Simply put, Jesus lived a sacrificial, separated and sanctified life (Jn 10:36; Heb 7:26). He consecrated His life and time to serving His heavenly Father and fulfilling His purpose on earth (Heb 7:28). Hence, the invitation to take His yoke and learn from Him. The power to live like Christ is received through the Holy Spirit whom God sent to indwell believers. It is through His power that a believer is brought to Christ, quicked and empowered (Acts 1:8; Col 2:13). 2. Power to Evangelise like Christ Jn 14:6 God, is the God and author of evangelism. The main reason for evangelism is to recover, reconcile and restore the man He created. Through evangelism, God is giving the world the opportunity to repent, choose Him and be restored or be separated from Him throughout eternity (Jn 1:12; 3:16-18). Therefore, everyone shall make that personal decision so that none would have any escuse on the judgment day. Power to evangelise is the authority conferred on believers to do God's works (Acts 1:8). Jesus has shown the example, and wants every believer in Him to do exactly what He has done. God has given the authority to believers not only to live the sanctified life, but also, to labour for the salvation of lost souls. This power to evangelise is received through the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who believe. The Holy Spirit is also given to empower believers for the work of the gospel. Therefore, to live like Christ and evangelise effectively you need the power of the Holy Spirit.
