TEMPTATIONS
Scripture for Today: Mat. 6:13 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: (KJV)Word for Today
Some people find it difficult to understand the Bible text above. They wonder how and why God would want to lead His children into temptation. It is a known fact that the enemy likes and tries to discredit Christ and Christianity. Those who belong to cults or under Satanic control are preoccupied with trying to prove that Christ and the Holy Bible are frauds. Fortunately, the Old Testament records show that there are incontrovertible evidence that Jesus, the Messiah was going to come and save man from his sins. One thing every child of God must bear in mind is that if Jesus is the only begotten Son and Word of God, He will never make any mistake that any mortal, sinful man would need to correct. He declared that His Words are spirit and life (Jn. 6:63); He said that heaven and earth shall pass away, but not His Word (Mt. 24:35). It is only the devil and his agents that would cast aspersion on Christ, His Words and Christianity. The Bible has a lot to teach about temptation. There are many accounts of people of God who were tempted both in the Old and New Testaments. The word “temptation,” can be defined in several ways to mean different things, but the Bible, which is God’s perfect, inerrant and Holy Word to the world (irrespective of tribe, tongue, or religion) defines what God is saying. Therefore, you should believe the Holy Bible. Tests, trials, temptations and examinations are to prove your ability, knowledge or experience. Yes! God does allow temptations to prove His children in order to know the extent of their obedience and faithfulness or otherwise (Ex. 20:20; Deut. 8:2). It is part of your spiritual training to be tempted, but God will not allow you to be tested above your capacity (1 Cor. 10:13). Therefore, the counsel to pray that God should not lead you into temptation is an admission of our human weakness, godly fear and dependence on God’s mercy and protection. In fact, without God no man can overcome the devil and his temptations. Beloved, God will not lead you into temptation for evil to befall you, but to prove you, and He will not allow the temptation that is above you to come to you. He told Apostle Paul that His grace was sufficient for him (2 Cor. 12:9). Decision: I shall seek God’s mercy to enable me overcome temptations. Prayer: Lord Jesus, give me your grace to overcome temptations in Jesus Name! Declaration: Receive God’s sufficient grace to overcome every temptation in Jesus Name! Amen. God bless you. Pastor Alex.
